What We Do

We at Capital Clubhouse Inc - a 501(c)3 organization - are currently working hard to open a Clubhouse for people living with mental illness in the Washington metropolitan area. The lack of a mental health Clubhouse - a well-proven, cost-effective and evidence-based road to recovery - in Washington D.C. is a significant missing piece in the overall mental health care system of our great city.

Currently, we are searching for a location for our Clubhouse and - following a successful opening fund-raiser with Clubhouse friend and supporter Patrick J. Kennedy - identifying new funding sources and staff so that in 2015 we can begin to provide the opportunities that some 200 cities around the country and over 300 across the globe are offering their communities: a restorative environment for people whose lives have been disrupted by severe mental illness.

Capital Clubhouse will provide its members with four guaranteed rights:

  • the right to a place to come
  • the right to meaningful relationships
  • the right to meaningful work
  • the right to a place to return

These rights stem from the International’s Standards for Clubhouse Programs, consensually agreed upon by the worldwide Clubhouse community.
